Serena Williams has beaten Germany's Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3, to claim a seventh Wimbledon singles title, and has equaled Steffi Grafs professional era record of 22Grand slam singles crowns on Saturday.
The match took place at the All England Club in London and lasted for an hour and twenty one minutes.
Her friends, power couple, Beyonce and Jay-Z were in the crowd at the Centre Court to show support to the star.
An excited Serena said, “It’s a great feeling to be here. Angelique brings out great tennis in me,” adding,
“It’s been incredibly difficult not to think about it. It makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked hard for it. This court definitely feels like home, I have a match later today in the doubles, so I’ll be back out.”
Kerber, acknowledging Serena’s victory, notated that the vivacious athlete was indeed a great champion.
“Serena you deserve it, you are a great champion and great person. We played a great match.
“It’s an honour to play on Centre Court and a great feeling.”
Williams has almost equalled Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles.
