Jared Fogle gets more than 15years in prison in child sex case

A judge sentenced former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle to more than 15 years in prison on Thursday for trading in child pornography and having sex with underage prostitutes.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt disregarded prosecutors' recommendation that Fogle get 12 1/2 years behind bars, opting for a stiffer sentence of 15 years and eight months and ordering him to pay a $175,000 fine. She could have sentenced him to up to 50 years in prison.
In explaining her sentence, Pratt noted how fortunate Fogle was to land his lucrative deal to be Subway's spokesman after losing a lot of weight in college. What a gift, to have such a professional windfall fall in your lap,” she said, adding that Fogle was living a double life for many of those years.
Before learning his sentence, the 38-year-old father of two addressed the court, apologizing for the damage he had done to his victims and family and vowing to be a better person when he gets out of prison.
“I so regret that I let so many of you down,” he told the court.
“I want to redeem my life. I want to become a good, decent person. I want to rebuild my life,” he said.
Fogle pleaded guilty to one count each of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and distribution and receipt of child pornography, as per a deal he struck with prosecutors in August. The charges followed a July raid on his suburban Indianapolis home.
Before Fogle addressed the court, the two sides called witnesses. Fogle's lawyers called John Bradford, a professor at the University of Ottawa in Canada, who testified by phone.
Bradford said he analyzed Fogle on Aug. 17, two days before Fogle agreed to his plea deal, and concluded that Fogle suffers from hypersexuality, mild pedophilia and alcohol abuse and dependency.
He said he took Fogle's sexual history, including his sexual interests, and tested him to determine what images caused Fogle to be sexually aroused. He said Fogle also told him that he had “a fairly extensive history” of using prostitutes for sex. Under cross-examination, Bradford said Fogle admitted to paying a minimum of about $12,000 a year for sex.
“He certainly engaged in sex over a significant period of time. He engaged in that extensively when he was working for the Subway Corp,” Bradford said.
He also said Fogle told him he had engaged in sex with minors of 16 and 17 years of age, and said that he had a sexual interest in teenagers.
“He started viewing pornography in college and had a fairly extensive collection of pornography in college,” Bradford said.
Bradford said Fogle apparently had a compulsive eating disorder before he lost all of the weight that led to him becoming the face of Subway, and that his hypersexuality seemed to develop shortly after he shed the extra pounds.
He also said Fogle, whose wife filed for divorce on the day he agreed to plead guilty, admitted that he occasionally fantasized about children. “His main interest was in young females and some interest in adolescent males.”
Bradford said he concluded that Fogle suffered from “mild pedophilia.”
“I did believe that he did suffer from pedophilia, but it was pedophilia that did not involve acting out that with a child.”
In his plea deal, Fogle admitted that had sex at New York City hotels with two girls under age 18 -- one of whom was 16 at the time -- and paid them for that sex. He also acknowledged receiving child pornography produced by Russell Taylor, the former executive director of the JaredFoundation, a nonprofit Fogle started to raise awareness and money to fight childhood obesity.
Authorities said Taylor, using hidden cameras in his Indianapolis-area residences to produce child pornography, secretly filmed 12 minors as they were nude, changing clothes, or engaged in other activities. Taylor has agreed to plead guilty to child-exploitation and child-pornography charges.
Prosecutors said in a sentencing memorandum filed last week that Fogle received photos or videos from Taylor of eight of those 12 youths, and that some of those images were of girls as young as 12. Fogle could have stopped Taylor from victimizing some of minors, prosecutors have said, but he instead encouraged Taylor to produce additional child pornography.
Fogle agreed to pay a total of $1.4 million to his 14 victims, with each getting $100,000. Before Fogle entered his guilty pleas Thursday, one of his attorneys told the judge that Fogle had paid 12 of the 14 victims and turned over the checks for the last two victims before the proceedings began.
Fogle became a Subway spokesman after shedding more than 200 pounds as a college student, in part by eating the chain's sandwiches.
Subway ended its relationship with Fogle after authorities raided his suburban Indianapolis home in July.

Michael Phelps and his fiancee are expecting.

BALTIMORE, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Olympic star Michael Phelps and his fiancée Nicole Johnson are expecting their first child together.
The couple made the announcement on Instagram Wednesday that Johnson is 12 weeks pregnant with a baby boy.

"We found out 8 weeks ago we were expecting...Today we're over 12 weeks and it looks like we're having a boy!! #babymp #mp #lifeabouttochange #mpswim," Phelps captioned the post alongside a photo of the swimmer holding up a pair of baby-sized swimming trunks around Johnson's stomach outside an Olympic sized pool.
Johnson posted the same photo on her Instagram account adding that the soon-to-be husband and wife "couldn't be happier."
Phelps and Johnson dated for years off-and-on again since 2011 until the 22-time medalist got engaged to Johnson earlier this year in February.
Recently, Phelps opened up to Sports Illustrated about his time in rehab following his second DUI arrest from 2014 and how he had begun training again for the 2016 Olympic Summer Games.

The sexiest man alive

David Beckham is a global superstar, devoted husband and down-to-earth dad of four. And now, the humble British heartthrob is this year's Sexiest Man Alive.

"It's a huge honor," Beckham, 40, tells PEOPLE of scoring our 30th anniversary Sexiest Man crown. "And I'm very pleased to accept."

Although he's been a sex symbol for nearly two decades, the self-effacing soccer icon isn't sure he's even deserving of the mantle. "I never feel that I'm an attractive, sexy person," he says in this week's cover story. "I mean I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I don't ever think of myself that way."

Still, when Beckham shared the news with his wife, fashion mogul Victoria Beckham, 41, she was totally on-board.

"I would hope that she feels this way about me all the time anyway!" he says with a shy smile. "But she said, 'Congratulations!' "
"We kind of laughed about it with the boys and the boys kind of laughed at me and said, 'Really?! Sexiest man alive? Really?' "

A hands-on father of Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, Cruz, 10, and Harper, 4, Beckham says he's getting the most ribbing from his eldest: "Brooklyn was the one who was like, 'Are you sure it's not me that's meant to be there today?'"

Adele the soulful singer

The prospect of following up her all-conquering 21 album must have been a daunting one for Adele.
Sparked by a painful break-up, that record sold 30 million copies and made the young Londoner a superstar after its release in 2011. Some even credited it with single-handedly reviving a struggling music industry.
Now, after much deliberation, the sequel is upon us. The four intervening years have seen Adele, now 27, become a mum and suffer from writer’s block.

But this return finds her tapping back into a rich vein of melodic, heartfelt songwriting to produce something that will delight her huge audience.
Like her two previous albums, the title refers to the singer’s age when these autobiographical songs were written. And, while the wounds aren’t quite as raw as before, it still concerns itself with matters of the heart.
Adele is growing up, but she clearly has some unfinished business with the man who broke her heart to inspire 21.
She also remains a superb singer with a big, soulful voice and an ability to lay bare her feelings in song. With its tight, elegant pop numbers and tear-jerking ballads, 25 strays only fleetingly from the styles that made her a star, but there’s no harm in sticking to tradition when you can sing like this
The mood is largely wistful and nostalgic. Other than the acerbic Send My Love (To Your New Lover), there is little of the bitterness that inspired tracks like Rolling In The Deep on 21.
Adele is now singing of the need to move on, although her optimism is often tempered by a yearning for lost youth and simpler times.
This hankering for a more innocent era is at its most potent on When We Were Young, an Elton-like piano ballad co-written with relatively unknown but hugely talented Canadian musician Tobias Jesso Jr.
Powered by plangent chords, gospel backing singers and a lead vocal of sustained power from Adele, its wall of sound rises towards a tumultuous finale, with the singer reminiscing about an old flame while admitting: ‘I’m so sad at getting old, it makes me restless.’ It already has the feel of a modern standard.
She opens up again on Million Years Ago, a gentle bossa nova that harks back to the simplicity of her debut album, 19.

Tinged with regret, but staying clear of self-pity, it could be her comment on the price of fame: ‘When I walk around the streets where I grew up and found my feet / They can’t look me in the eye, it’s like they’re scared of me.’
Any Adele album is going to have its share of songs that tug at the emotions, and there are times when fans might need hankies at the ready.
Underscored by synthesisers and a big orchestral arrangement, Love In The Dark is spectacular in its drama, with the queen of heartache concluding: ‘I don’t think you can save me.’
Yet there are moments in which her heavy-hearted tone becomes monotonous.
Co-written with Bruno Mars, the dreary ballad All I Ask piles on the anguish — ‘If this is my last night with you, hold me like I’m more than a friend’ — while closing track Sweetest Devotion is over-wrought.
On the whole, though, a more mature sense of perspective reigns. Conversational single Hello strikes a conciliatory note, with Adele seeking to restore her self-confidence on ‘the other side’ of a traumatic split.
The slow-burning but atmospheric I Miss You could be a love song for the singer’s long-term boyfriend Simon Konecki.
Having won seven Grammys and two Brits with 21, the singer — on BBC1 tonight on the show Adele At The BBC — doesn’t take many chances here, although the two numbers on which she does venture on to fresh musical ground are rewarding.
Send My Love (To Your New Lover), produced by Swedish svengali Max Martin, is a stripped-down acoustic track with a tropical flavour. And the dark, wonderfully nuanced River Lea, co-written with American producer Danger Mouse, gives a formidable comeback one of its best moments.

Technology is speeding up our perception of time

Can’t believe it’s almost Christmas? Technology is SPEEDING UP our perception of time, researchers say

  • Our brains process more information and think time passes by faster
  • Study showed those who are always connected are stressed about time
  • Detach from the Internet each week in order to slow down time perception
  • Other research suggests technology helps process information faster

One day you’re heading to the beach for a fun day in the sun and the next you’re hanging lights and tinsel on a Christmas tree.
It feels like time speeds up more and more every year, but it’s actually technology speeding up our perception of time, one researcher says.
Smartphones, tablets and other gadgets have trained our brains to process more information, tricking us into thinking time is passing faster than it really is, according to a recent study

It feels like time speeds up more every year, but it’s actually technology speeding up our perception of time. Smartphones, tablets and other gadgets have trained our brains to process more information, tricking us into thinking time is passing faster than it really is, according to a recent study
‘I’ve found some indication that interacting with technology and technocentric societies has increased some type of pacemaker within us,’ said James Cook University researcher Dr Aoife McLoughlin in a recent interview.
‘While it might help us to work faster, it also makes us feel more pressured by time.’
The study analyzed individuals who are always connected to technology and those who rarely used it, and compared how each perceived the passage of time.

Findings indicated that those who were glued to screens overestimated the amount of time that had passed, compared to those that rarely used googled, posted or ‘liked’ anything.
Also, the individuals who used technology regularly were more stressed because they were more likely to feel like time was running out.

‘It's almost as though we're trying to emulate the technology and be speedier and more efficient
Even just reading a simple advertisement, subjects perceived time as passing more quickly, than compared to the other group that a long monologue from a ‘real’ book.
‘It's almost as though we're trying to emulate the technology and be speedier and more efficient,’ McLoughlin said.
‘It seems like there’s something about technology itself that primes us to increase that pacemaker inside of us that measures the passing of time."
The findings prove what most have known all along: we need to stop and smell the roses.
In order to stop time from rushing by we need to unplug from the World Wide Web each week to slow down our pacemakers, the study suggested.
Disconnecting seems like a quick fix, but McLoughlin is going to take the study a step further to see if this phenomenon is having any long-term positive or negative effects on our lives.
Other research has shown that technology use can help us process information more efficiently, and actually become faster at performing tasks, which could help us save time in the long run.

WAYS OUR MINDS WARP TIME

People often report that time seems to slow down in life-threatening situations, like skydiving.
Listening to music you enjoy seems to slow down time. This may be because when we enjoy music we listen more carefully, getting lost in it. Greater attention leads to perception of a longer interval of time.
The fact that we intuitively believe time flies when we’re having fun may have more to do with how time seems to slow when we’re not having fun. Boredom draws our attention to the passage of time which gives us the feeling that it’s slowing down.
The stopped clock illusion happens when you look at an analogue watch and the second-hand seems to freeze for longer than a second before moving on. What is happening is that when your eyes move from one point to another, your perception of time stretches slightly.
When things happen very close together in time, our brains fuse them together into a single snapshot of the present.
The effort of trying to either suppress or enhance our emotional reactions seems to change our perception of time. Psychologists have found that when people are trying to regulate their emotions, time seems to drag on.
The University of Toronto study discovered people who play action video games such as Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed seem to learn a new sensorimotor skill more quickly than non-gamers do.
A new sensorimotor skill, such as learning to ride a bike or typing, often requires a new pattern of coordination between vision and motor movement. With such skills, an individual generally moves from novice performance, characterized by a low degree of coordination, to expert performance, marked by a high degree of coordination.
As a result of successful sensorimotor learning, one comes to perform these tasks efficiently and perhaps even without consciously thinking about them, the researchers say.

Gisele works hard to maintain her figure

Gisele Bundchen obviously works hard for her enviable figure.
And the Brazilian supermodel - who underwent a widely reported secret boob job and eye lift this summer - worked up a sweat while at her gym in Boston on Thursday.
The 35-year-old wore a grey zip-up sweatshirt and matching grey leggings for her intense workout

The mother-of-two pulled her blonde hair up off her face in a high ponytail, and wore large sunglasses as she headed to her car.
The supermodel went makeup free for her gym session, and looked slightly flushed after her workout.
Gisele was the highest paid model in the world for the ninth year in a row, taking home $44 million in 2015 thanks to lucrative modelling campaigns for Under Armour, Isabel Marant, Chanel, Stuart Weiztman and Balenciaga.

She wore tight grey capri leggings with a light stripe up the side with matching Under Armor sneakers.
Gisele, who wed Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in 2009, carried a silver bag over her shoulder and clutched a blue glass water bottle.
The celebrity couple are parents to two-year-old daughter Vivian and five-year-old Benjamin. Tom also has an eight-year-old son John from his relationship with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.

Over the summer Bundchen and her younger sister, Rafaela, posed as devout Muslims to secretly enter a clinic in Paris where they both underwent overnight surgical procedures.
Bundchen allegedly had operations on her eyes and breasts, which she was concerned had 'sagged' following her two pregnancies, the New York Post reported at the time.
The retired model recently admitted that she thought of 'running away' from NFL star Brady when his ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan, announced she was pregnant with his child in early 2007.
'I felt I didn't know what to do. It was one of those moments, do I just run away?' Gisele told CBS This Morning's Charlie Rose last week.
But when she met Tom Brady, her instincts told her 'he was a very kind man,' she said, adding: 'He is, he's kind. He's the good man.'

Brandon Camphor and one way.

The first time I saw Brandon Camphor and OneWay perform, I knew I had just witnessed something special! Their cutting-edge music and style set them apart in the Gospel music industry. However, it’s their message of Jesus Christ as the one and only way that is reaching and transforming the masses. Gospel Today had the privilege to speak to this phenomenal group on their latest single and upcoming album. GT: Please tell me about your name “One Way.” How did you come up with it? BC: One of the things that brought our group together was the faith and love for Jesus that we all share, in addition to each of our passion for this generation. When thinking of a name, we immediately went to the Word of God, and the scripture John 14:6 popped out at us. It’s our desire to show our generation there’s only ONE WAY to the Father and that is through Jesus Christ. There’s also only one way to live and that is right according to God’s Word. It’s not about adjusting His Word if it’s a lifestyle; it’s about adjusting your lifestyle to do what God’s Word says. -
GT: How did you come together? And how long have you all been singing together? BC: Fred Cleveland, Angela Jones, and I have known each other for almost 15 years now. Wow, time flies! We attended high school together in Washington, DC, and that’s where our journey began. After we graduated [from] high school, we reconnected and decided to partner in ministry as we realized we had the same interests musically and spiritually. Julia McMillan later joined our team completing the formula that is now known as Brandon Camphor and OneWay.
GT: Your style and music are very hip and youthful. Is your primary audience the youth of today? BC: Yes, I would say our target audience are youth and young adults. We enjoy making music that is appealing to this generation, but more than anything, it’s important to share the message of Jesus Christ through every song that we sing. We can’t be so focused on making the music so relevant that it loses the effectiveness of the Gospel Message within as that is the main objective in why we do what we do. -
GT: What message do you want to convey to today’s youth? BC: The title of our new album is Hope is Alive. With this album, it is our desire to inspire hope in the lives of every listener. Considering the times we are living in and all the tragedies we are constantly hearing about on the news, there is no better time for a message such as this to be shared with the nation. This message is not just for young people, but for ALL people. Jesus is our hope!
GT: Please tell me about the new single? BC: I’m so excited about our latest single “I Choose You.” I knew this song had a message that could relate to anybody. We’ve all, believers and unbelievers, have had moments where we’ve had to make key decisions in our lives and the choice to choose Jesus was the biggest one for me. That’s also a part of the reason why I chose the song as a single. I think in the days we are living in, there needs to be more declarations of why Jesus is the right choice to make everyone’s life. He’s the way, the truth, and the life and people need to know! Our full-length album, Hope Is Alive, can be expected August 2015! GT: When and where can we see you perform?
BC: All of our tour dates and latest updates can be found on our website' culled from G.T-

The platinum singer -Adele

She has been blazing the promotional trail in a whirlwind of high-profile performances and high-fashion gowns, since her long-awaited return to the music scene late last month.
So Adele is no doubt eager to tone down the glamour whenever she has a chance, as shown when she stepped out in New York on Monday evening sporting trainers and an oversized coat.
The 27-year-old hitmaker was taking an evening to relax before the release of When We Were Young - the latest track from her forthcoming third record, 25

Adele opted for comfort as she returned to her temporary NYC digs in an oversized black coat, which skimmed her calves.
The stunning singer, well known for a love of dark hues in her wardrobe choices, appeared to wear black leggings and a vest beneath the cover-up
The final dressed-down touch to the look was a pair of monochrome Converse trainers which added a truly casual feel to the ensemble.
Despite her low-key look, Adele's hair and make-up were completely flawless - the remnants of her uber-glam look earlier in the day, when she looked sensational in a flattering black dress, while heading to a radio appearance at SiriusXM.
The morning after her dressed down outing, the London-born songstress thrilled fans when she released When We Were Young, the follow up to her smash comeback hit Hello.

After teasing the track on Instagram, following the filming of a live special with Australian TV show 60 minutes, Adele opted to release the song in its entirety on her website on Tuesday.

In her Instagram teaser, she gives the performance her all, putting her usual emotional spin on the lyrics: 'Oh, I'm so mad I'm getting old - it makes me reckless.
'It was just like a movie. It was just like a song when we were young.'
The song was co-written by Canadian musician Tobias Jesso Jr., who revealed in a recent interview that he was blown away with Adele's songwriting skills.
He told Rolling Stone: 'It's impossible to question why she's where she is once you sit down with her to write a song.
'She was the first introduction I had to somebody who could sing words on the spot that were actually great.'

The first release from the album, Hello, has been described as a 'make-up anthem' to the elusive ex she sang about on world mega-hit 21, shot straight to number one in the UK charts, where it has remained ever since.

Her strawberry blonde locks, now in a bouncy shoulder-length style, were perfectly coiffed - although they were slightly more disheveled when she sported her trainers look later in the day.
Her demure number featured heavy, lattice-style embroidery, which helped show off her defined waist.

Being a platinum artist, she added a pair of shades to her ensemble, adding a real touch of Hollywood glamour.
