I NEED A SONG by COCOSISTA ( UDUAK OTONGARAN).

I NEED A SONG by Cocosista.

I need a song,
A love song to cheer,
A lyrical song too:
To chase away the blues.

I need a stick and drum
To tap away my pain.
I need a big round drum
To bring me joy again
.

I need a tune of birds
As I lie alone in bed
A melodious symphony of tweets
Not a cacophony or sorrowful dirge

I need a tune to brood
And hum of what pain means.
Nobody feels hurt in our tune
When we lie in bed, humming alone.

IKEJA OF PINK LIPS AND TATOOS by Emebiriodo Ugochukwu.

Times are changing and the need to acquire the very vitals in life has basically gone from: I want a house, I want a car, I want a degree, to I want that perfect eyebrow, I want that perfect bum, oh, them pink lips, I want that too! The quest to achieve that perfect body and body features has created a lucrative business for many. On my way to the office the other day, I stumbled upon the headquarters of the lucrative body parts hustle, the a lmighty "Ikeja under bridge". The Ikeja under bridge is a whole new world where everything can be bought and even replaced. The first chatter you'd hear would be; "Psst... Psst... Bros, pink lips, pink lips here!", "Aunty, your permanent eyebrow, permanent eyebrow here!", "Sisi, yansh pad, yansh pad here!" "Psst... Bros, tattoo here. I fit sketch anything wey you want o!". If you're not used to the environment, you might be taken aback for a couple of minutes. However, with regular visits, you just smile and savour the tune of Ikeja under bridge.                                                                                                                                  Once a bus stops you under that bridge, all you'd hear is; pink lips, piercing, tattoo removal, stretch mark removal, teeth whitening, permanent eyebrow, boobs and hip

enlargement, almost in chorus! They market sex toys, customize jerseys and even put up ridiculous adverts like, "Now, are you worried about your unattractive lip(usually

the lower lip or both) or are you a smoker with black thicklip? What if there is a balm out there that you can just apply to your lip and it becomes naturally pink? Youll be thankful for reading this info, because there is this new interesting product called Pinklip

Balm."

Lagos embodies rhythm. From conductors screaming bus stops at the top of their lungs to beggars dishing out unsoothing tunes while begging for alms, to Okada riders using Trailer horns while driving like moto-gp racers to scare the hell out of pedestrians, to the mind disturbing early morning sermons from imams and pastors, warning all and sundry of the end time. In the midst of all this chaos, Lagos Sisis don't forget to look their very best and pay attention to the yansh, the hips, the brows and of course the cheap tattoos from Ikeja under bridge; some of the tattoos would have you asking if they were sketched with machetes or suya knives. The eyebrows nkor? They look like a fresh man Engineer's technical drawing sketch, but Eko goes on o. Ikeja under bridge art is a thing of legend, known from Buhari's Naija, to the England of Mama Charles. I once heard from a friend that was told by a friend that at Ikeja under bridge you can even change wombs... Well, let's not talk about that for now. Back to the headquarters of glam, a new saying now goes thus: whatever happens at Ikeja under bridge stays with you forever. Of course, a cheap tattoo and that dream pink lips would be bad, but a scarred skin and cracked lips would look worse.

A DAY WITH KUBY UYANGA.

COCOSISTA: Who is Kuby Uyanga

KUBY: In very basic terms, Kuby Uyanga is a 30 year old Nigerian writer.

COCOSISTA: Basic terms? That means there’s more to you?

KUBY: Yes. I have a variety of interests, some as an amateur and others on a professional level. I hold a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. I am an actor. I am also a public speaker with keen interest in personal development. Writing is the vocation that cuts across almost all I do, so I introduce myself as a writer most times.

COCOSISTA: Wow. Could you give a brief on your background and how you transitioned from engineering to your current career?

KUBY: I was born in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state into a close-knit family. I have three siblings. I had the regular Nigerian childhood with its attendant ups and downs. I was registered in a performing arts troupe for children to keep me busy during the holidays, I believe that is where I caught the creative bug. However, my dad insisted I follow through academics. He was particular about me becoming an engineer. My primary and secondary education was in Akwa Ibom state after which I gained admission into the then Federal University of Technology, now Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Adamawa state from where I earned my degree. I held engineering jobs in Abuja after graduating. These jobs did not fulfil me so about eighteen months ago, I made the decision to move to Lagos and build the career in the creative industry.

COCOSISTA: Interesting journey I must say. Has it been a smooth ride?

KUBY: Far from it. There’s been challenges every step of the way. From family disapproval, financial difficulties of moving to a new city and getting my foot in the door. However, there’s been progress despite the temporary obstacles.

COCOSISTA: What is your screen name?

KUBY: My screen name is same as my real name. Kuby Uyanga!

COCOSISTA: When did you start acting?

KUBY: I started acting as a primary school kid in school plays and in a performing arts troupe during the holidays but I stopped acting after I graduated from primary school. I resumed acting professionally soon after I relocated to Lagos, precisely January 2015. I had a role in Emem Isong’s LAGOS COUGARS – the series.

COCOSISTA:
How did you land a role in JENIFA’S DIARY

KUBY: I had a meeting with someone and the person called to say he’d be late for the meeting because he was at an audition. As the meeting was important to me, I decided to go meet him at the audition venue. It turned out to be the auditions for JENIFA”S DIARY. After our meeting, I decided to also audition and the rest as they say is history. I was cast for a role and I also became one of the writers of the comedy series.
COCOSISTA: You seem to be versatile. You write scripts, act and blog. Which do you enjoy doing more?
KUBY: Yes I have a range of interests. However writing is always closest to my heart.
COCOSISTA: When did you start writing?
KUBY: I started writing when I was in JSS 1. Before then I’d always believed I could make a great writer. I admired the art because I was an avid reader from an early age. I had read Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield and a couple of James Hadley Chase titles by the time I was 10 years old.
COCOSISTA: You are also a public speaker. Can you tell us about your outfit?
KUBY: Yes I am a public speaker and a member of Toastmasters International, the leading movement committed to making effective oral communication and leadership capacity development a worldwide reality. I am Director of Letters at Kuboid Communications. Our services include executive coaching on public speaking and writing of speeches among the provision of other bespoke content solutions.
COCOSISTA: Are you emotionally attached to anyone at the moment?
KUBY: Oh yes I am emotionally attached to a number of people. My family and friends! Of course I know you mean whether I am in a romantic relationship with anyone. No I am no significant other.
COCOSISTA: It’s been wonderful having a peep into your world. As a parting shot, can you tell us what your typical day is like?
KUBY: I usually wake up between 2 and 3am every day. I pray, exercise, plan my day and write till dawn. I then prepare and go out for any appointment, meetings or job commitments I have during the day. I always try to sleep before 11pm every night so I can get up early to have a head start before dawn. However, I don’t have outside engagements on some days so I spend all day writing. A perfect day is one when I can write uninterrupted all day!

The Youngest Billionaire in The World is A Norwegian Teenager- Forbes.

Just 19 years young, Alexandra Andresen is the world’s youngest billionaire. Heir to a family fortune built on tobacco, she debuts among the 2016 World’s Billionaires thanks to her stake in investment company Ferd that FORBES values at $1.2 billion.
View the full list of the 2016 billionaire rankings here.
Fresh out of high school, Alexandra seems to have no rush to be an active owner, and is instead one of the most promising horseback riders in Norway, collecting trophies from competitions across Europe.
Equally wealthy is her sister Katharina, one year Alexandra’s senior. After a spell in a Ferd led project targeting youth unemployment in 2014, Katharina enrolled at Amsterdam University College where she is a freshman studying social science.

The sisters each own 42.2 percent of the private company and have for a while. Despite their paper wealth, they have been able to live in relative normalness in Norway until recently. For individuals above the age 17, Norwegian tax authorities annually publish tax return numbers, so since hitting legal age, the sisters have gotten attention for their stakes. Katharina in an interview on Norwegian television said that she got 500 new friend requests on Facebook FB +1.31% when details on her wealth first were published in 2014.The company Ferd, which means “journey” in Norwegian, has roots dating back to 1849, when Alexandra and Katharina’s great-great-great grandfather Johan Henrik Andresen bought J.L. Tiedemanns tobacco factory, starting what was to be the market leading cigarette maker in Norway for over 150 years. The family remained in the tobacco industry until 2005, when it sold its share to Skandinavisk Tobakskompagni for almost $500 million. Today Ferd is a holding company with diverse interests spanning private equity holdings, real estate, security investments and a hedge fund. Today Johan H. Andersen , the sisters’ father and chairman of the board, member of the fifth generation, owns 15.2% but still has 70 percent of the votes and the Ttwitter TWTR +2.35% handle @FerdOwner through which he spreads his thoughts to some 55,000 followers.

Vivid Verses A new avenue for Poetic Expression- by Emebiriodo Ugochukwu.

It's no news if you're a fan of poetry and spoken word in Nigeria. That there are few radio programs for the promotion of the art, even outlets for Poets to express themselves in the media but well there's good news, Komson Studios has bridged that gap.
Poets and poetry in the past few years have been on a rise. A rise that has led to the creation of various platforms, competition even journals to help promote the art form. Poets and spoken word artists before now have been reduced to event hunting, platform and open mic seeking intellectual MC's while their counter parts in other genres and even contemporary music enjoy maximum exposure in the media.

On the 1st of November 2014, a new platform was introduced. A platform created by Komson Studios, named Vivid Verses, a platform managed by Poet and Media Merchant Ayokunle Komolafe. The platform was and still is, aimed at promoting poets and poetry, taking poetry back to its rightful place in the society and also giving a voice to both the known and the unknown in the Nigerian poetry scene. In the words of Ayokunle Komolafe "Vivid Verses was born out of my love for poetry and believing that poetry should be given its rightful place in the society". The program since its inception over a year ago, has hosted the biggest and brightest of poets from across the country; slam champions, upcoming and established poets, local and international poets. The program is currently on two Lagos based radio stations, Metro 97.7 fm, on Saturdays at 11:15am - 11:30 and on Rhythm 93.7fm on Sundays at 7:30pm - 7:45pm and can also be streamed online on the websites of the stations.

Recently Komson Studios organized a spoken word competition which was won by Promise Osigwe, a final year student of Federal University of Technology, Owerri. He clinched the first prize of audio and video recordings of his winning poem entitled "Three Bullets". The company has also made efforts to assist poets in developing their concepts into video and assisting them to promote it on television. These efforts would go a long way in repositioning the art and placing it on a pedestal where every other art form would strive to catch up.

In coming years Vivid Verses plans to organize events that would bring old and new poets together on one platform, hold workshops, organize competitions at the secondary school level to encourage budding writers and of course help in the growth of the art form.

In the words of Matthew Arnold "poetry is simply the most beautiful, impressive and widely effective mode of saying things and hence it is important". Vivid Verses is helping to promote poets and poetry, two vital tools in societal development also seeking to change the world one poem and poet at a time
