Elegushi Beach Managers Arrested Over Drowned UNILAG Students.

The Lagos State Police Command has stated that it has arrested two managers of the Elegushi Beach in Ajah over two postgraduate students of the University of Lagos who drowned on Sunday during their friend’s birthday.
According to the Punch newspapers, the command, however, were unwilling to disclose the names of the suspects, adding that it was on the trail of some other members of the management to investigate their complicity in the incident.
The deceased –  Adesola Ogunmefun and 25-year-old Funmi Odusina – were having fun with their friend, Bolu, on the beach when they were submerged by strong tides, which swept them into the Atlantic Ocean.
They had graduated from the Covenant University and were on the brink of bagging their Master’s Degrees in International Law and Diplomacy from UNILAG.
While Ogunmefun was brought out dead, Bolu and Odusina were said to have been rushed to some private hospitals in the area which rejected them.
Odusina died on the way to the Lagos Island General Hospital, while Bolu survived.
Families and friends of deceased  blamed the deaths on the alleged failure of the beach management to provide necessary safety devices like life guards, a wave alarm system, an ambulance and a medical unit at the facility and condemned the indifference of the hospitals that rejected the victims.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos,on Wednesday said that the names of the arrested managers would be disclosed as soon as their culpability in the circumstances surrounding the deaths was determined.
Badmos said the suspects were under interrogation and the command would visit the scene of the crime to assess its safety devices.
She said, “The command has arrested two managers of the beach and they are being interrogated. We don’t want to release their names now so as not to infringe on their human rights. As soon as we ascertain their culpability, their names will be made public.
“We hope to arrest more persons and we will visit the scene of the crime to know what transpired.”

WORDAHOLICS: A POETRY EVENT.

The deep they say calls to the deep. In the same vein, just like the gravitational force of a magnet’s pull,  poets are attracted to the seductive ‘toast’ of a poetry convergence, hence, the unprecedented crowd that gathered at the serene lounge of Barbecue City Lounge, in the bustling city of  Costain, Lagos, to turn up with other attuned individuals who are enthusiastic about the trade. In a country that has witnessed the decline in the agitation for poetry; both page and stage, such liberating innovation by Mr. Komolafe, popular called Sir Komsons, by every young and budding poet, has proven to continuously strive to rejuvenate the almost-exile spirit of poetry among Nigerians, especially the youths who inevitably bear the brunt of it all.
With his weekly proselytizing programme – Vivid Verses on Metro FM and Rhythm FM both in Lagos, which entertains different poets on air, a landslide new platform has come to augment the radio agitation for poetry; both page and stage, such liberating innovation by Mr. Komolafe, popular called Sir Komsons, by every young and budding poet, has proven to continuously strive to rejuvenate the almost-exile spirit of poetry among Nigerians, especially the youths who inevitably bear the brunt of it all.
With his weekly proselytizing programme – Vivid Verses on Metro FM and Rhythm FM both in Lagos, which entertains different poets on air, a landslide new platform has come to augment the radio programmes; WORDAHOLICS, a monthly cocktail of fruity poetry and sublime spoken word performances.
The second phase – WORDAHOLICS 2.0 – of the innovation thrilled all present at the barroom of the Lounge in Lagos, on the 30th day of the month of May, 2016
Even though the earlier fears had been the distraction from the other occupants of the Lounge, who were there for a birthday celebration, fears were however allayed when the ‘fun-seekers’ showed immense interest in poetry, shouting their ‘oohs and ‘aahs’, in appreciation of the poets who entertained with the timeless bleeding from their voracious pens.
In attendance were young poets and vibrant war-lords, who have, in their little way, travelled around the country in pursuit of what they believe in – poetry, and writing in general.
From the 4 o’clock kick-off, poets like Saint Rhymes, Soul’e Rhymez, James ‘Conco’ Ademuyiwa, Victor ‘Lyricpoet’ Adewale, Blue Adonis, Prestige, Oma, Clem, Diipo, Stallone Obaraemi Samuel and a host of others, shared their heart-softening spoken word and page poetry, while onlookers nodded affirmatively tothe exquisite jamboree of words that were churned out.
Until the past 7 o’clock, closing time, when the vote of thanks was delivered, poetry was the only ambience that serenaded the entire atmosphere, even as the bar frequenters, who were attracted by the banner, stopped over to be thrilled by the pristine craft of language and breath-taking insouciance of imageries and metaphors.
So, people keep the date with the Vivid Verses/Wordaholics spirit on Metro FM every Saturday and Rhythm FM every Sunday, and watch out   for the once-in-a-month gathering. Let’s support a cause for the resuscitation of poetry in Nigeria.

WHY I BECAME BORN AGAIN- LYNXX.

Lynxxx's sudden turn around has taken many  by surprise as the rapper who was once into secular music revealed he is starting afresh and delving into gospel rap.

The music star unveiled  his new found spirituality during a recent appearance on Frankly Speaking With Jola Sotubo. He said:

“I just became more spiritual, I just decided to focus on the more important things in life over the frivolous and fleeting things,“I’m in a space where if it doesn’t matter to me, it doesn’t matter, because at the end of the day we’re all getting older, and life is moving for everybody. Whether I’m a musician or not, real life is happening."

“It’s only right to take that step…I’ve played enough in my life, I’ve enjoyed enough in my life, I’ve done the wrong things enough in my life so it’s time to really focus on the things that matter, things that will grow you and prosper you rather than things that will eventually bring you down.” he added.

To be honest, I can't seem to find the right words to quantify my meeting with this lovely and larger than life icon; Mrs Busola Jegede.
